The History of Our Polish Pottery

Since the 7th century, pottery has been produced in the town of Bolesawiec, Poland along the banks of the Bobr River. In it's initial stages, the pottery was being made solely for functional purposes, coated in a brown glaze, and not nearly as attractive as the pieces we see today.

It wasn't until the end of the 1800's that the formation of pottery became an art form. Around this same time, Polish pottery was becoming a stable in the home, especially, they say, in the parlor. The glazes were clearer, the colors and designs more intricate and vibrant, and the textures more unique. Thus, the birth of the pottery we have become so familiar with today.
